RC Sproul Jr Dishonors Father -- Again

Highlands Study Center Generations Conference
The recently defrocked RC Sproul Jr and his Highlands Study Center will be hosting the Generations Conference in Abingdon Virginia, May 5 and 6. As we wrote about previously in RC Sproul Jr Speaks On "Honor"? You've Gotta Be Kidding!, the theme of the conference is "Giving Honor To Whom Honor Is Due." So how well does RC Sproul Jr score on keeping the Fifth Commandment and honoring his own father? Has anything improved since the last time we reported on it? Tragically, no. In fact, RC Sproul Jr continues to just prove our point that he doesn't practice what he preaches.

Here's the latest example of RC Sproul Jr dishonoring his father, and it's from the March/April 2006 edition of Every Thought Captive -- the new RC Sproul Jr Top Ten List:

And the number one reason to come to our conference,
to ask R.C. the elder, in the context of child-rearing, "What in the world were you thinking?"

Highlands Study Center ETC Every Thought Captive

Yes, we realize it's meant to be a joke. But in our estimation this joke isn't funny. It's a slam on Dr. RC Sproul's "child-rearing" skills, and one can only assume that if Vesta Sproul were speaking at the conference, she too would have been slammed as part of the "joke." It's dishonoring, and the fact that it may have been intended to be funny doesn't in any way make it any the less dishonoring.

RC Sproul Jr is 40-years old. He needs to cease these juvenile jabs at his parents. He needs to start keeping the Fifth Commandment. He needs to cease speaking so pridefully and writing so shamelessly of his profligate adolescent years (Ligonier Tales), a rebellious time of his life which likely caused his parents great shame and embarrassment. RC Sproul Jr needs to grow up. But as was recently pointed out on another blog, RC Sproul Jr thinks like and talks like a (quoting RC Sproul Jr himself) "junior high girl."

Having RC Sproul Jr speak at a conference on the Fifth Commandment is like having Bill Clinton speak at a conference on marital fidelity.

Far more relevant than Dr. RC Sproul's parenting skills is RC Sproul Jr's skills at honoring his parents. The pressing question of the moment is:

In the context of being a parent-honoring Fifth Commandment-keeping son, "What on earth were YOU thinking?"

Thanks for the question. It's certainly a reasonable one. The purpose of this blog is to expose the hypocrisy and duplicity of a particular wolf in sheep's clothing who masquerades as a Reformed theologian, a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and a pastor.

There are many wolves operating within the church. Christians of Reformed persuassion are happy to see non-Reformed wolves exposed, such as Benny Hinn, John Hagee, etc. They're often not too happy to see Reformed wolves exposed though, and they can get just as irrational in defending a Reformed wolf like RC Sproul Jr as would a slain in the spirit tongue talking pentacostal might defend Benny Hinn.

It at least makes some sense why a check your brain at the door pentacostal would defend Benny Hinn. It makes no sense why any Reformed faith Christian would defend RC Sproul Jr.

And who are you? It is awfully easy to hide behind anonymity, post comments somewhere on a blog, and not take on the folks directly on their website or actually debate them. I have a hard time believing you or giving weight to anything you say when I don't know who you really are. You are very good at talking about what a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ should do. Have you given thought to how you are to approach a man in error? (Matt 18 is a good start.) You are not providing help or warnings regarding error in the life of a servant of Christ. You are merely providing slander. I have no dog in this fight. But I do have a problem when I simply see someone kicking someone else's and not providing real solutions. Scripture does tell us to rebuke (you're pretty good about that), but also to correct and instruct--all in the context of love. I get no feeling reading your material that you want genuine repentance. I get the feeling you want them disgraced, and to disappear somewhere or go work at a run down drive-in somewhere. As long as you get the upper hand, and they are crushed beneath your wit and all-seeing and all-understanding eye. My wish for you is that you get to meet one of these men of whom you have such distain. And at some point, you get to see genuine repentance in him, and you get to help remove the log from his own eye, helping that brother in need.

I have no beef with you, but you have not prove any of your accusations here.

Even if R. C. Jr dishonors his father, this is still no reflection upon R. C. Sr. I know by experience that you can raise your kids in church and teach them the Word of God and they still go the way they want when they get grown.

Who knows whether God is using Jr's failures to bring him to a relationship with him? You see I was in the world and was saved out of the world and went to church for years, but my children have always been in the church and may have just went through the motions without ever truly coming to know God, but God may allow them to walk through the word and through many failures to bring them to him.

If you think Jr is failing then, You should pray for R. C. Jr because this may be your own child one of these days.
